Difference between Expedition & Cargo Services

Nowadays, there are many options for shipping services that can be utilized, both for business and personal purposes. Two types of delivery services that are often used are expedition and cargo. Although both offer freight forwarding services, they have significant differences.

Expeditions generally handle the delivery of goods on a small to medium scale. The minimum weight of goods that can be sent is usually 1 kg. Delivery is made directly from the sender to the recipient using the expedition company’s courier fleet (door to door). Expedition services only cover domestic delivery areas.

Meanwhile, cargo is more focused on shipping goods on a large scale. The minimum weight of goods that can be shipped is usually 10 kg. Shipments are generally made by air using cargo planes or by sea using container ships (port to port). In addition, cargo services also include shipping goods overseas. Cargo also often serves and continues the delivery of goods from expedition companies.

Another main difference is that expedition is suitable for shipping small quantities of goods with light weight such as documents or packages. Cargo, on the other hand, is more suitable for bulk and heavy shipments such as merchandise, machinery, or building materials.

Choosing the right shipping service certainly requires considerations such as the type and amount of goods to be shipped, the distance and destination area, and the costs that must be incurred. Expedition and cargo services each have advantages according to the delivery needs of customers.
